Intro to glass faceting
Some topics covered in this specific class include, but are not limited to:
selecting the right equipment
mast-based faceting using a fixed armature
understanding the index wheel
proper grit progression for grinding and polishing glass
how and why facets work
dopping techniques
designing a facet pattern
mathematic calculations within faceting
troubleshooting issues while faceting
how to repair damaged facets on a finished piece
chasing micro scratches (how to beat them!)
how to achieve a museum grade polish
geometric technicalities within faceting
calculating how facets impact the value of your art
how to photograph faceted glass
I will walk you through all of the proper steps necessary to masterfully facet your glass with precision and proficiency . We will be faceting various pieces and running lots of demos using an Ultra Tec glass tec machine with an 8” wheel head. This is the machine I am teaching on, although I will be covering other aspects of different machinery based on various budgets and coldworking styles.
There will be 1-on-1 feedback sessions where students can receive constructive criticism on their work.
This is a beginner faceting class , no experience is required.
